ANGELLA MACEWEN READY TO FIGHT FOR OTTAWA CENTRE ON PARLIAMENT HILL
Ottawa - Ottawa Centre needs a Member of Parliament that fights for them. With the announcement today that Ottawa Centre MP Catherine McKenna will not be seeking re-election, the choice for voters in Ottawa in the next federal election has never been more clear: the NDP.
Angella MacEwen, who is seeking the NDP nomination in Ottawa Centre, released the following statement:
“I want to thank Catherine McKenna for her years of public service. As a woman in cabinet, she faced a stunning amount of online hate, vitriol and sexism. While I disagree with her on a number of policy issues, I respect the way she spoke out against sexism in politics and made room for other women to do the same.
Ottawa Centre needs strong progressive representation for their MP. We need someone who will fight for the local issues that constituents care about, such as our housing and homelessness crisis, the climate emergency and support for our most vulnerable neighbours.
From Paul Dewar to Ed Broadbent, the NDP has strong roots in Ottawa Centre. I hope to continue that legacy as the NDP candidate so we can hold this government to account, fight for the change we need, and build a more equal economy for all.”
MacEwen is running for the NDP nomination in Ottawa Centre, where she has lived for the last nine years with her family. Ottawa Centre NDP members will select their candidate for the federal election on July 17th.
